Cargo Shorts and Style FAQ
The most frequently asked questions about cargo shorts by those who are amazed by the name and design of this millennial fashion statement. Well, we can see more variations to this basic design in the future as more and more pockets will be needed in our person to accommodate our gizmos and essentials. We may be really in for an upcoming Zombie apocalypse. Who knows?
1. What are cargo shorts?
Cargo pants or cargo trousers are sometimes also called combat trousers (or combat pants). The design of the cargo pants or cargo trousers follows the design of the military purpose loosely cut pants which are originally designed for tough, outdoor activities. The design is distinguished by one or more cargo pockets typically placed on the sides of the legs at the thigh level.
The cargo pants have become popular since these are convenient for carrying items during day trips on foot. The purpose by which cargo shorts or cargo pants became a staple for urban wear as well. The specially designed cargo pocket which is a form of patch pocket, provided with accordion folds to increase its carrying capacity when needed is closed by a flap secured by a snap, button, magnet, or Velcro.
These types of closures are common on battledress and hunting clothing. Some designs, have cargo pockets hidden within the legs.
Made of hard-wearing fabric and ruggedly stitched the cargo pants or cargo shorts now have variations made of cotton-synthetic blends, and also of quick-drying synthetic which often features oversized belt loops to accommodate wide webbing belts which have also become fashionable cargo pants or cargo shorts accessories.
Characteristically designed to allow ample and easy bending at the knee and hip, these fashion-forward pants and shorts design draw their strength and durability from its felled seams.
2. What shorts should guys wear?
When fitting for shorts, it’s crucial that it doesn’t go past your knees. The top of your kneecaps the longest the hem of your shorts should be. However, this is a matter of personal preference, but for us here at Men’s Stylists, and me particularly, I think any man with shorts that go past his knees is just really stating his own fashion sense. Because we are always warned to do not ever wear shorts that are too long, they don’t look good man. That should be the first rule on men wearing shorts. that we all don’t follow.
The second most common mistake for guys is wearing shorts that are too wide at the bottom. Just like factory-manufactured pants, mass-produced shorts are too wide through the leg. This is from experience, and I know most of you will agree with me on this.
You need to get your shorts tailored or look for slim fit shorts unless you have thick legs that would fill most factory-manufactured shorts leg design and cut. Women look good on shorts with a bottom-heavy silhouette, just like they wear their skirts. But it’s bad for us men. It makes men’s legs look thin and weak because the hem of the shorts swallows them.
What you need to try to achieve is a nice gentle taper that follows the line of your body. It doesn’t have to be skin tight, but fitted and comfortable. It should allow you to be able to move around, with a little wiggle room between the fabric and your skin. However, it should not be more than a couple of inches. What is most important is that your shorts should fit in the seat and crotch.
What shorts design to avoid: obvious branding/logos, cargo pockets, large, bold patterns, distressed like shorts with tears, rips, holes, stains designs. Cargo shorts are included in the list of short designs to avoid. Maybe because most cargo shorts designs are mostly long with hems reaching below the knee and some even reaching the middle of the legs.
Cargo shorts as they become urban fashion basics have also been given transformation designs. To suit the taste of urban style and fashion. Hems are becoming shorter and narrower, just about knee level as the longest and the fit are becoming slimmer. But the cargo pockets are still there but are also given some facelifts. See some of the new cargo shorts designs here.
3. What is Chino short?
Chino pants are so-called because of the lightweight 100% cotton or cotton-blend fabric material used to make the pants. The cotton fabric has a tighter weave than that of the heavyweight 100% cotton twill fabric of khakis. Also, the fact that Chino pants being made of lightweight 100% cotton fabric they are often cut slimmer and on a closer fit, which gives it a formal appeal that no other type of pants design can deliver. Chino shorts are just knee-length or short version of Chino pants.
Said by many designers and fashion enthusiasts, Chino shorts’ structure design is perfectly balanced between comfort and sophistication. It has a simple composition that one design can be styled in a hundred different ways.
4. How long should cargo shorts be?
When it comes to getting the right length of your shorts I daresay it is all about personal judgment. Some say if you’re a gentleman you shouldn’t show your whole thighs. Even if they’re perfectly toned. You are probably going a little too short with that length.
They further add anywhere between two and four inches above the knee is the perfect length. But reading further those lengths they are mentioning is for tailored shorts. And even how hard I tried I couldn’t find something which discusses the right length of cargo shorts even the one article about cargo pants and shorts on Wikipedia. It just says the cargo short is a shortened cargo pants.
Well as the cargo shorts have sparked some serious discussions about it as a fashion incongruity for men. Let’s just say it doesn’t matter how long you want or prefer your cargo short to be. It’s all up to your convenience and taste. Today cargo shorts come in all different lengths and fit.
I got one with the length 2 inches above my knee and a little tighter fit. The important detail to consider is you are comfortable wearing it and the pockets, lots of them are still there. It’s my greatest cargo shorts trigger.
5. How short can men’s shorts be?
This point is already discussed above and I reiterate whatever is the style or design of the short you are planning to buy. Just be sure you are comfortable in it and it doesn’t display any indecent part of the skin.
Whether its a 2 inches above or below the knee, up to the middle of your legs, almost to your ankle length. The important thing is you feel cool and good wearing it. The debate could go on as to the right length should men’s shorts be, but we all cannot agree on the same measurement.
